"I own a 3 year old filly that her trainer believes has ability. She went to a trial and refused to gallop with the rest of the field and later at a second trial, raced at the rear of the field for about 600 metres then when a horse pulled out in front of her, she shied and dropped away to finish last. After each trial she hardly raised a sweat and it was apparent that her problem was reluctance to run with other horses. I had seen a television article on Andrew Froggatt, a horse psychologist. Andrew worked with the filly for about 5 weeks after which she won a jump out at Levin. She raced in the body of field and pulled away in the straight. She then had a further trial where she hung and got a about 15 lengths away from leader but made up a huge amount of ground in the straight to finish about 3 lengths from the winner over a distance of 1,000 metres.
Andrew then corrected the hanging problem and she was just beaten in a further jump out at Levin with the third horse some 10 lengths back. Just a few days prior to running in her first race, she knocked a leg and is now spelling.
The trainer will prepare her for the next campaign but I am grateful to Andrew Froggatt for ironing out the various issues."
